Jack get up and dressed, gotten in car and gone to place of homicide, fortunately a bar was still open and gotten off from car gotten in bar, asked soon a coffee, and drunk it with calm, sometime turned for to see contest of homicide, while he drunk his coffee. Bar man commented: “Bad night this, or not inspector, and seems that you have sleep very little, your girl is very passionate”, Jack seen barman and answered: “I haven’t girl, and yesterday other homicide, therefore now are two, I tonight have sleep alone to 3:00 and now are 5:00, I have slept two hours, perhaps I am tired”, he had payed coffee and gotten out, took a cigarette and lighted it; Jack not was a strong smoker, but that cigarette was very sweet, he approached to corpus delicti and asked: “Who is?”, a policeman who was there informed Jack, and when uncovered corpus delicti Jack seen that died was an informer, his informer, that he knew very well and Jack had always asked to him for vary information. A colleague approached to Jack and asked: “Do you have seen who is? Somebody thinks that you know who has slain him”, Jack seen his colleague and replied: “Why I would must know who is murderous?”, colleague answered: “Because would can be you”, Jack seen colleague and continued look him while he went away. Jack turned around and begun to think, and while thought he haired next him and voice: “Think because somebody had wanted slain your informer”, Jack turned soon and seen a man with long bard and thick mustache, that seen him with attention Jack therefore asked: “Who are you?”, and old man answered: “Nobody, I am alone one man who will know, because I know that I don’t know”, Jack was astonished and seeing again that man asked: “Are a parent or acquaintance? I want know who are you, please otherwise you must go away”, old man continued to see corpus delicti and not seems interested to order of Jack, who very angry tried to take hands of old man for to handcuff but he tried to take hands and he can’t it, these seem of air, old man given his hands and: “You can’t take me neither now neither never, because I am died at 399 b.C.”, Jack though that he was crazy, and in fact supported word of old man, how experience taught, but a doubt was always present, hands of this man are real or not, because jack had tried handcuff man, but he can’t manage to take hands, therefore a doubt was present and rested in brain of Jack, who turned to old man and asked: “Are you from?”, and a policeman seen Jack and he had noted that Jack talk alone, therefore approached to Jack and asked: “Inspector it all ok?”, Jack turned to policeman and asked: “Yes, certainly, why?”, and policeman: “Because you are talking with air, and I think that you have slept very little”, Jack asked: “Do you see this man, this old man?”, policeman turned around and: “Not, absolutely, I see alone you and the corpus delicti” Jack seen policeman and indicated old man, but he soon realized that old man he alone can see it, therefore he corrected soon his word and asked to policeman go away, and he made it. Jack seen old man and asked: “Therefore I can see you alone?” and old man answered: “Yes alone you, and I will lead you for solve this case, you must alone user logic”. Jack therefore talked: “Logically think, yes, certainly; I think logically; this is a corpus delicti and somebody had slain him, and I must discover who is, I think that it is enough clear”, old man then: “Yes but who is murderous you must think who wanted him died, and who want damage you”, then Jack seen intensely old man and he asked: “Do have read Earldom of Montecristo?”, Jack seen old man and answered: “Not absolutely, what is it?”, old man smiled and: “It is a romance and a man is accused injustice of near to Napoleon, and he is imprisoned in a terrible jail, and after fifteen years he know Faria abbey, a prisoner that suggests of search true between his enemies and friends and between who wanted him in jail, but alone with logic, then you must think with logic”, Jack begun think and he considered somebody that hate him for envy or other motive, and he considered his colleague and other, and also an ex-wife, in police, that by much time seems jalousie for some rapport that he had with other woman, both in police corps and not, and he had also anonymous phones, and had thought that was childlike jokey, but now considered again this opinion and gathered every episode; therefore he turned to old man and talked: “I have considered some my colleagues and a my ex-wife, but I think that they can’t make it to me”, old man answered: “Think with logic; who think that nobody can suspect guilty, then makes murderous, because nobody can suspect; think logically”,    but Jack answered; “Yes but this died was an informer and drug pusher, therefore much wanted died”, old man interrupted him and commented: “It is motive, a pusher is always danger of his life, and can has much enemies, therefore is for you very mechanical think that it is murder for drug”, Jack touched his head and: “It is true!”, old man therefore: “What are report with your wife, or ex-wife?”, Jack answered: “Very well; we are divorced and…”, old man interrupted: “And you had other women, and your ex-wife not bear it”, Jack seen old man and: “But we have decide for divorce together, and she had asked divorced”, and old man: “She had asked divorce because she wanted that you refused it, but you had accepted and now she wants revenge”, Jack astonished asked: “What? She had wanted that I refused divorce? But herself had asked and more time divorce”, and old man; “Because she had wanted that you refused, a woman not will stop never loves, if it seems obvious; men make very little for a woman but she gives all, also when all is terminated; follow me, this murder is question very personal and not for drug”, Jack then thought much thing and gathered these, for a moment was silence, a policeman approached to him and asked: “Inspector, lacks arm for murder, but we think…”, Jack interrupted policeman and: “It is alone murder between pushers, then inquiry will go otherwhere”, Jack turned and seen around and searched old man, he isn’t, Jack smiled and gotten in car, went away forward his department.

Dopo la mezzanotte Jack sentì lo squillo del telefono si alzò dal letto e cercò la luce nel buio l’accese immediatamente, prese il cellulare e rispose: “Pronto sono Jack, e penso che se ancora non sono morto lo sarò fra poco, quindi se puoi chiamare fra cinque minuti, grazie”, ma quella notte era destino che Jack non potesse dormire perché il suo capo rispose: “Sveglia, un omicidio, e devo ricordarti che tu sei un ispettore della omicidi, comunque non temere, perché il prossimo omicidio chiederemo che sia compiuto a mezzogiorno, così non dovrò disturbarti”, e urlò: “Muoviti subito”. Jack si alzò e si vestì, salì in macchina e andò sul luogo del delitto, un bar ancora aperto, uscito dalla macchina entrò nel bar e chiese un caffè, lo bevve con calma e talvolta si guardava intorno e indietro per vedere il contesto dell’omicidio. Il barista commentò: “Brutta notte, o no ispettore, sembra che abbia dormito davvero poco, la sua fidanzata credo sia passionale”; Jack guardò il barista e rispose: “Non ho una ragazza e ieri era un altro omicidio, quindi ora sono due, stanotte ho dormito dalle 3:00 alle 5:00, ho dormito due ore, e forse sono stanco”, pagò il caffè ed uscì, accese una sigaretta; Jack non era un fumatore accanito, ma quella sigaretta  fu davvero un sollievo, si avvicinò al corpo  e chiese: “Chi è?”, e Jack vide che era un informatore, il suo informatore e Jack aveva sempre chiesto per diverse questioni; un collega si avvicinò a Jack e chiese: “Hai visto chi è? Qualcuno pensa che tu l’abbia ucciso”, Jack guardò il collega e replicò: “Perché dovrei essere l’assassino?”, e il collega: “Perché potresti essere tu”; Jack guardò il collega anche mentre andava via. Jack si voltò intorno e cominciò a pensare, e mentre pensava ascoltò una voce a lui vicina: “Pensa perché qualcuno ha voluto uccidere il tuo informatore”, Jack si girò subito e vide un uomo con una lunga barba e baffi folti, che lo guardava con attenzione e Jack quindi: “Chi sei tu?” e l’uomo vecchio rispose: “Nessuno, sono soltanto un uomo che vuole conoscere, perché so di non sapere”, Jack era ancora stupito e guardando ancora l’uomo chiese: “Sei un parente ovvero conoscente? Vorrei sapere chi tu sia, altrimenti puoi andare via”, l’uomo continuò a guardare il corpo e non sembrava minimamente interessato a Jack, Jack davvero risentito cercò di prendergli le mani e ammanettarlo, ma non riuscì, sembrava aereo, l’uomo diede le sue mani e: “Non puoi prendermi né ora né mai, perché io sono morto nel 399 a.C.”, Jack pensò che fosse pazzo, ed infatti assecondò le sue parole, come insegnava l’esperienza, ma un dubbio era ancora presente, le mani di quest’uomo erano reali o no? Perché Jack aveva tentato di ammanettarlo, ma non era riuscito, quindi il dubbio restava nella mente di Jack, che si girò verso l’uomo e chiese: “Da dove vieni?” ed un uomo che vide Jack che parlava da solo, quindi si avvicinò e chiese: “Ispettore tutto bene?”, Jack si girò e chiese: “Si certamente perché?”, e il poliziotto: “Perché sta parlando con l’aria, e credo che lei abbia dormito davvero poco”, Jack rispose: “Vedi quest’uomo?”, il poliziotto si girò intorno e: “No assolutamente, vedo il corpo dell’ucciso”, jack guardò il poliziotto e indicò l’uomo, e subito capì che forse solo lui poteva vederlo, e corresse subito le sue parole  e chiese al poliziotto di andare via. Jack guardò l’uomo e chiese: “Quindi solo io posso vederti”, e l’uomo rispose: “Si solo tu, e io ti guiderò per risolvere questo caso, tu devi usare la logica”, Jack quindi disse: “Penso logicamente, si, io penso logicamente, questo è il corpo di un mio informatore e qualcuno l’ha ucciso, e io devo scoprire chi è l’assassino, credo che basti”, l’uomo quindi: “Ma per l’assassino tu devi pensare a chi voleva lui morto, e chi vuole danneggiare te, quindi Jack guardò intensamente l’uomo e lui chiese: “Hai mai letto il Conte di Montecristo?”; Jack rispose: “No certamente , cosa è?”; l’uomo sorrise e: “Un romanzo che racconta di un uomo ingiustamente accusato di parteggiare per Napoleone e che viene imprigionato in una prigione tremenda, e dopo quindici anni conobbe l’abate Faria, un altro prigioniero che suggerisce di cercare la verità  fra i suoi nemici e amici e fra chi volesse fare del male a lui, ma solo con logica”, Jack cominciò a pensare  e a considerare chi lo odiava sia per invidia ovvero altri motivi, considerò suoi colleghi ed altri, anche la sua ex moglie, anche lei poliziotta, che da molto tempo era gelosa per qualche rapporto con altre donne, sia poliziotte che no, e ripensò ad alcune telefonate anonime che lui aveva considerato solo scherzi infantili, quindi si girò all’uomo e disse: “Ho considerato qualche mio collega e la mia ex moglie, ma non credo che abbiano fatto questo”, e l’uomo rispose: “Pensa con logica, chi pensa di essere insospettabile allora compie azioni come queste, pensa logicamente”, ma Jack rispose: “Si ma questo morto era un informatore e spacciatore  quindi molti lo volevano morto”, l’uomo interruppe e commentò: “Questo è il motivo, uno spacciatore è sempre in pericolo, e può avere molti nemici, quindi tu pensi meccanicamente  che sia omicidio per droga”, Jack si tocco la testa e: “Vero”, l’uomo quindi: “Quali sono i rapporti con la tua ex moglie”, Jack rispose: “Buoni, siamo divorziati…”, e l’uomo: “E tu hai avuto un’altra donna, e la tua ex moglie non lo sopporta” Jack guardò l’uomo e : “Ma abbiamo deciso per il divorzio insieme, e lei lo chiese”, e l’uomo: “Lei chiese il divorzio perché voleva che tu lo rifiutassi, ma tu hai accettato e lei vuole la vendetta”, Jack restò stupito e chiese: “Cosa? Lei voleva che io rifiutassi il divorzio? Ma lei stessa l’ha chiesto più volte?”, e l’uomo: “Perché voleva che tu lo rifiutassi, una donna non smette mai di amare, anche se questo sembra ovvio; l’uomo fa davvero poco ma la donna dà molto anzi tutto, anche quando è finito tutto; credimi, questo omicidio è una mera questione personale e non di droga”, Jack allora pensò molto e raccolse tutti i ricordi e restò in silenzio, un poliziotto si avvicinò e chiese: “Ispettore, manca l’arma del delitto, ma noi pensiamo…” Jack lo interruppe  e: “Questo è un omicidio fra spacciatori, quindi l’indagine  prende altre strade”, Jack si guardò intorno e cercò l’uomo, ma non c’era, Jack sorrise e rientrò in macchina, quindi andò diretto al suo distretto.
