Walking for art

An examination very difficult, Modern Art history, and above all Italian art, from centuries 15th to 18th, and that year program was around Baroque art in Italy; Ludovica was a girl of Italian origin and she would always went in Italy, because she studied Art history, and Italy was a mandatory stopping place for art like for archeologist is also Greek, and Egyptologist is Egypt; but Ludy, this  was name that she loved, was very busy for studies and those imagines of baroque architecture and other painting she has alone seen for photos; but for this examination was necessary direct experience, professor would that students has looked this art, and directly, because he would red also notes of students, because he advised to everybody that was necessary to look art work directly; he was lasted in Italy 12 years and he has looked much works. When Ludy set in front of professor for examination, he asked soon: “What do you have seen? Borromini, Bernini, Peter form Cortona, Luca Giordano? Or nothing? I advise you not try to lie me because I have seen much your colleagues and I have experience, therefore if you have seen it very well otherwise you will go back for next examination”, Ludy was very astonish for this frankness, and in fact she didn’t open mouth, she stood up and went out, she open door of classroom and while she walking for a street she entered in an room that she known as a bar, but she kept his head lowered, and in front of bench she ordered a coffee, and she thought again around she could make but it is was a think very transient, because she raised her hand and looked a man with a shirt very large and white and black trousers, she looked around very astonish and she seen that much men were in that room that not was a usually bar but a room dark with table of wood in bad state, and men looked hers with suspect, and somebody has extracted a knife. All looked Ludy and she tried took out, but a man cried to hers: “Where do you go?”, and raised approached to hers, he was a elegant man, with a hat and a black dress and a mantle, boots and gloves that he kept on hands, embrace Ludy and he said: “If you have studied before art and my architecture you don’t would be here, now, but since you are here is better for you get out otherwise somebody could ask how much for a passional night”, Ludy more astonish than worried gone out with this man, and somebody cried: “Compliment Francis”, they gone out from inn, and they were in street with slush and horses and merchants and guards, therefore Ludy asked: “Where do we are?”, and man that was ahead to Ludy answered: “In Rome at years 1667 and I am Francesco Borromini, architect, and you a student who hasn’t study my architecture, therefore you must go with me, and you will must listen that will I say”, in fact they entered into church of San Charles to Four Fountains, and Francis indicated some particular and with much explications, therefore: “Look very well form of this space, it is a simple process of Renaissance; geometry of Renaissance that I have used but with other order, Renaissance used geometry so that all architecture was rational, but geometry can be also irrational”, and Ludy then commented: “Not absolutely, geometry is rational and stop!”, and Francis: “Geometry is rational certainly but the use can be irrational, look plane of this church”, and Francis opened a paper with a drawing and he indicated this drawing, and : “Look here much triangles that are united among them, it is very rational but this is irrational because are present curves and abs that make a strange form, cupola are two circles united, therefore rational, but if you look it you will don’t consider that this cupola are two circles and triangle, all is rational but all is irrational, so is for Sant’ Ivo other church”, and Francis was in Pia street, got out from church of Saint Charles and knocked to other door, and bother he and Ludy were in Sant’ Ivo, where Ludy looked all structure, and Francis explained same concept, and explained also that Sant’ Ivo was attorney for poor, and Francis has took the rationality of law and irrationality of mankind; therefore he has used two triangle, that are rational and diagonals, he has represented rationality and irrationality, all is possible and for move hesitate of mankind that is represented here by walls, that will find in rationality of law, therefore in geometry the rational but space is irrational. Ludy listened all with life interest and kept in hand all information, and she looked all structure and continued to ask. The church of Sant’ Ivo therefore closed and they were in for their visit, Ludy was worried but Francis open with a keys the door, and made gone out Ludy, and she was in room of University where professor, invited hers to set and she explained all architecture of Borromini for a hour and half; finally the proof very astonish stood up and shakes hands with hers and he given maximum of vote. When Ludy looked her university student’s record-book she smiled because sign was: Franciscus Borrominis dixit , this is Francis Borromini has talked it.

Public direction

After rehearsals and much cues repeated and kept on memory, and therefore by now the script was part of life of actors, very tire they want alone that first night happen so they would have finally performance that they know on memory. The first night happen and actors were excited for this shows, it was Julius Caesar of Shakespeare, and much persons and critics were gone for comments and criticize this performance; therefore, actors were very nervous and everyone repeated on memory his cues, and curtain reised and everyone was in pose for start, in a street of ancient Rome, Flavian: “Go away! To home idler, it is holiday today? Do you not know that artisan you must go around with sign of your work? What is your job? Speak.” And common: “Joiner”, and Flavian: “Where id your apron and ruler? What do you make with this address for holiday?” and while the second common start to answer to cue, a person of public reised and: “Flavian is very much hungry, or better too, for Shakespeare must be hungry but not so”, other person reised and: “I think that the first common is very coward and…”, other: “So must be in conformity with tell of Shakespeare, and therefore we can’t change it” and spectator: “Not certainly, but you can better it and much you can better”, and actor who performance Flavian: “How do we can better?”, and other spectator: “The scene with Caesar and Calpurnia, his wife” and actor that is Casca: “Do you suggest that I can speak with strong?”, and spectator: “Yes, clever!  Academy of Ambroise

Ambrose or Giotto, as everybody called him, was arrived in front of a building of 17th century, his style was very next to Borromini, but next alone because architect was other; Giotto stopped there and looked form and style of building and some comment with himself; he was gone from Middle Age and this architecture, for his taste and culture, was very strange, above all when he knew that that building was an Academy; word that for him was lacking of meaningful, in fact he repeated himself: “What is Academy? I am alone a painter and this building is very strange and more strange is word Academy”, word that he looked on front of building, the suspect was very strong, and he before gone in took his knife, and after he gone in. He made cross sign, and thinking that he must meet somebody, enemies took out knife. He gone in and looked around, the sun lighted the space of entrance and a long corridor and to end a light and a figure of man that was busied to read a journal. Giotto walked until end and, always with his knife in the right hand, approached to man, who was sit down and red journal; Giotto approached and:

Giotto: “Bono die tibi sit bono homo”

Man: “What? Sorry but I don’t understand what you have say”

Giotto: “Good morning, mister…”

Man: “Cennino Cennini, painter younger than you”

Giotto: “Sorry I too, but I don’t think that I know you”

Cennino: “Contrary I think it, because you are dead when was life my father, but when you are dead I aren’t born again”

Giotto: “Who are you then?”

Cennino: “Cennino Cennini son of Andrea Cennini, I am born in Colle of Val d’Elsa at 1370, and I am dead at 1427 in Florence, and I have written the Book of art…”

Giotto: “Around?”

Cennino: “Around how to make art of painter”

Cennino: “I have written in my Book of art: Giotto changed art by Greek to Latin style, this is from Byzantinist to Roman style, and natural style, look those painting(he indicates some painting). Giotto: “But I am much more plastic and real than Pietro, he is again next to Byzant’s”

Cennino: “Not he has trayed a formal change but it is alone partial success because his costumer were traditional men; if you look faces and cloth you must consider that the cloth are very plastic but faces must enjoy costumer, therefore are Byzant’s, and this Christ is example:
 He must enjoy costumer and he enjoy himself also, and in fact he enjoyed himself  with natural form, but you have painted in Tuscan while Cavallini in Rome, are two region much different and, you know it perfectly, Italy is an together of region everyone different for language and for culture, therefore you emerge today because you in Assisi have painted very much and with natural form but Pietro has less fortune and less commission than you, therefore respect whom has started natural form”

Giotto: “I respect but I want that also my enforce is kept in memory”

Cennini: “In fact it is happen always, the problem is that you don’t remember whom was before than you. Remember them before after yourself”

What do I must do

Exposition has opened and much persons went in for a first look and with promise that after a second when public will has been much less will go again; among these persons a woman, with a white dress and train very long, has went in and she looked every painting with attention, director of museum became curious approached to woman and after greeted asked: “Can I have your invite lady?”, and woman: “My invite is for all master that have worked for these painting, I am art and my name is art”, director was much astonish and asked: “Lady how are you?”, and woman: “Very good, but I am art, and I would like that you and other meet for a discussion around what is function of art, what do you think?”, while director has called security, but he same stopped policeman and asked: “Why?”, and woman: “Because in these rooms are very much persons your guests, but if you ask to them because they are here and what is function of these painting, they don’t know answer because they not know what is function of art”. The director, for a moment, though and after he called for a meet every guest, and he advised them that to next room will be a meet for a discussion around an argument very interesting, what is art and what is her function. Public together at next room and much chairs and guest set; therefore the director called the woman and: “You want show what is argument for this meet, well, do it”. Woman, alias Art, asked to public that was around: “What does is my function for each man and during the history, and for the future?” guests looked one other and one said: “Yes, it is true! Why we are here?” and other guest: “Because I have interest for art and painting”, and guest before: “Cook up, and you know it very well; you work for investment trust and you know the art like Latin language”, and this guest asked, softly, to his wife: “What is Latin language?”, and second guest continued: “What is function of art? I think that a motive for this work is, but I don’t know what is!” Other guest that has followed all discussion said: “You are asking what function has art, but I think that first you must ask if art has a function, because first we must clear it, not what is function, but if it has function.” Guests saw one other and somebody said: “Yes we must consider if art has function, and this is argument, but I think that  we must ask it to art same”, and turned to woman he asked: “What is your function?”, and Art: “I educate mankind and I teach what is holy and laic history”, then some guest asked: “What do you teach? Political? I don’t think, perhaps aesthetical alone, or not?”, and Art: “Political first, because it shows what a leader can works, and therefore educates and teaches, and this enforces the rule of leader, the portraits spread image of leader, today we have computer or television, but in ancient time was alone art, second it teach history, because wars, miracles, rules and persons are painted or sculptured and we, today, can know them because are present with portraits, and we can keep memory of them because they are present, for painting, sculpture and architecture that are arts, therefore art is necessary also today, for to live”, and a guest laughed: “For to live is impossible”, and Art: “When you will end this visit, do you will go beck to your home, or not?” and guest: “Yes, why?”, because your home is built by an architect and architecture is an art, or not?” and guest: “Yes”, and Art: “Therefore I can leave to live, because architecture is art. Then we have understood today that art is teaching, practical, political, and, above all, that it has a function”. She closed her dress and despaired. Guests stood up and continued for visit of exposition.

After close

Custodian by now turned for rooms of museum and he pressed some lovers of painting to close his visit because time was terminated, and the museum must be  closed. Therefore guardian looked latecomer, who again talk around a painting, and they talk with emphasis and sometime quarrel, somebody hold a position and a thesis other contradict this opinion with other opinions, and finally custodian life voice and imposed calm, and: “Be silent, please, only valid opinion is mine, now is time of close, and you go out now, stop!”, visitors very astonished walked toward door. Custodian made last turn and went out. Off line lights a voice, in the dark said: “It’s time for talk something author of this Fight, Giovan Francesco Rustici”, talked one of figure of a group of earthenware, I am a soldier and I am from centuries below this horse, I am very fed up”, and a man little distant approached to this soldier and: “I am Giovan Francesco Rustici, and I am author of this group, if you have something that you don’t love you can talk with me”, and soldier: “I cry from centuries, why do you have made me so?”, and Giovanni: “Because I love Leonard from Vinci and he in his Treatise says: “You will make some horse drag his dead horseman, and lip will be curved and visible tooth and they cry with compelling…”, do you have understand?” and figure: “Yes, but because Leonard? Puzzle

An inspector of police was called in deeply night, he answered to phone with much curse since he was soon lay down on the bed; he answered and a voice tool: “Sorry for disturb but a theft is happened and it is very strange for his way, can you come here?”, Bernard therefore get up bed and dressed with much cure, but also with hurry, he got in car and drove till Museum of modern art, where homicide was happened; he got out car and looked an open bar, and without other words he got in and asked soon a coffee; barman served him and he drunk that coffee like if out waits guillotine, and that coffee was lost of his life. While he drunk looked around and soon touch his pockets for to search cigarettes, that he found soon, but before looked that bar sold also cigarettes, and with some dollars he bought it. By now the theft after then years in police were normal for his life, but very relevant was surprise when he went out and on theft scene he looked something very anomalous; in fact, a puzzle was to floor and tesserae were on disorder on floor, but these aren’t much, some tens, he noted this characteristic and his interest was soon took by this particular; he together all tesserae and saw corps, therefore went to district. On his table he set all tesserae and he started composed puzzle, he was very happy when mysterious become very dark, he composed all tesserae and he created a face, a man with hat with large peak, black and face was of a man around 50 old age with thick and white mustache, and look very intense. This face was for him very interesting because it seems a face of other century, perhaps at 17th century, and he trayed to understand because a face of 17th century was in floor and what was mean of this presence, very strange. By now awake and incapable for to sleep, Bernard was very intense involve to this case; he was a logic person and every strangeness attracted him always; coffee and cigarettes were his better friends for this moments, this face was very strange and for a man who lives in New York it was more strange, a face that isn’t among suspect, he trayed a report with somebody that he has arrested, and he thought some name, and on computer he saw some face but not was that, therefore got up, and he gone to worm drink machine and while he thought, and he thought that was a sign of thief; therefore he was searching on computer he wrote name of artist, and he found that this portrait was of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, baroque artist in Rome, he searched immediately among thief of art, and together some name, not much but important. Therefore at 6 am he waited that art gallery and other sellers are open. Bernard went in store and he saw a man with back to door, and busied to painting a portrait; Bernard listened soon a stroke with hammer on anvil but out store, and he turned immediately and he saw that city was despaired, he run to door and he saw a way with much slush and horses with carriages and smith who stroke on metal, horses and other. He was astonish and tried a reference for to understand where he was, and haired a voice: “Useless that you are searching your buildings, here you are in other country and other city”, Bernard turned soon and looked to eyes a man with mustache, and pointed beard. Bernard soon asked: “Who are you? And Where I am now?” man answered: “I am Gian Lorenzo and you are in Rome, during 1645”, Bernard more astonish than before looked around and he saw assistants who painted and above all sculptured, who drew, who chosen tools for marble and other. Bernard therefore looked Gian Lorenzo and said: “That is painting that I am searching”, and he approached to painting, Gian Lorenzo followed him with look and commented: “Yes that painting is my portrait, and is take again from a engraving of Ottavio Leoni at 1622, and a biographical author wrote, that I have witty and lively; then was with other portrait of Costanza Bonarelli but now it is lost, but I have sculptured Costanza”, Bernard therefore asked: “You have now this portrait and in Museum it isn’t”, and Gian Lorenzo: “Yes but don’t worry, because I have gat alone for a slight change, tomorrow it will be in his place. Bernard looked to floor and Gian Lorenzo: “If you want you can went out and go back to your city”, with these words Bernard goggle eyes and open soon the door, and he listened cars and confusion of city, he was very calmed and went out from store, that he looked soon and he saw same gallery went in. Day after he for curiosity Bernard went in Museum where was theft for a consideration of some particular, and he saw together much persons and he wanted entry; he saw a man back with black suit while he explication with delicate voice, Bernard approached to him and asked: “Who are you?”, man turned toward Bernard and answered: “Gian Lorenzo, here is your painting some brushstroke were necessary, but now is perfect”, and he continued with his explication. Somebody next Bernard asked: “Do you know him?”, and Bernard: “Yes I have knew him some years ago”, and visitor: “When?”, and Bernard: “At 1645”.

Small town and great artist

Often, at last in Italy, are present local historical who has emotive task to tell every glory of town, and for Cortona, in Tuscan, this tradition is continuous; in fact Luke Berrettini, nephew of Pietro Berrettini, called Pietro da Cortona, follows this rule, his uncle is reference of painting during 17th century in Rome and Italy, he tells around painting task of Pietro and remarks role of his uncle, it is sufficient consider some words of Luke: “And so precisely leaved also Pietro Berrettini da Cortona, who was excelled among painting of 17th century. In fact memories tell that very little craftsmen have so fame and awards and somebody called him crow of painters…”, naturally veneration for this painter is determined by relationship and also, certainly, form love and pride for his town, that is evident for following words: “Stone-cutters and bricklayer, that have followed tradition of artist of Cortona, in conformity with rule taught by artist who were born in this city during centuries 15th and 16th” certainly Cortona is a city important because mentioned by Herodotus in his Histories, and it was Etrurian capital, but in history art is very important for his painter, Pietro and Luca Signorelli, other painter during 15th century, but other notation around this city are very rare; anyway, with much honesty he tells also around study and, we can think the influence, that Pietro could have during his trip in Venice and Emilia, therefore Luca is very sincere when he tells around his uncle, therefore Luca tells history of his uncle and for the possible he mentioned and celebrated Cortona.

Piccoli centri e grandi artisti

Spesso, almeno in Italia, sono presenti storici locali che hanno l’incarico emotivo di narrare le glorie del luogo dove vivono, e Cortona, in Toscana, non fa eccezione alla regola, Luca Berrettini, nipote di Pietro Berrettini, detto Pietro da Cortona, seguendo il ruolo dello storico locale, descrive lo zio come un riferimento della pittura del XVII secolo in Roma e Italia, racconta le diverse commissioni di Pietro, rimarcandone il ruolo, basti considerare qualche parola di Luca: “E tali appunto, massime nella pittura lasciolli anche Pietro Berrettini da Cortona, il qual senza dubbio primeggiò tra i valentuomini più operosi e fecondi del seicento. Infatti narrano le memorie, che pochi artefici ebbero in vita maggior riputazione di lui o premi più segnalati, mentre si giunse perfino a denominarlo Corona dei pittori”, naturalmente la venerazione per Pietro è dettata sia dalla parentela e certamente dall’orgoglio cortonese che resta manifesto in queste parole: “Scarpellini e muratori di professione, seguendo le tradizioni del buon gusto e le regole insegnate agli artefici cortonesi dai bravi maestri d' arte fioriti in detta città nei secoli XV e XVI, divennero anch' essi espertissimi nell' intagliar marmi e pietrami, nell' ideare e costruire edifizì”, Cortona fu una città rilevante nella storia antica come capitale etrusca, menzionata da Erodoto, ma nella storia dell’arte emerge solo per la nascita di Pietro e Luca Signorelli, altro pittore del XV secolo, ma altre citazioni di Cortona sono davvero rare; comunque dobbiamo rilevare che Luca è davvero onesto quando narra intorno ai viaggi dello zio a Venezia ed Emilia, che noi posiamo anche immaginare come motivi di influenze particolari; Luca racconta dello zio e cerca di celebrare anche Cortona.
