Temptations of to write

The theatrical Temptations of Saint Anthony of Flaubert is very original for be a  theatrical romance and for gives information, alone for name, around to heretical parties of first Christian centuries, it is very educational and give us motive for know several parties; we are, must confess it, used to think Christian as a concord community which has be so for much centuries, and which has fulfils his task with patience and love; but historical reality is very different, and we must considerer that this community begun with few alone member and after made attach at other religion, and killed also as Ipazia, a pagan philosopher woman who was killed by Christian as Plotino, other philosopher, killed by Christian; but in community much theological severance was born and much faction are fight between them, also with violence. This romance is very important as historical document but for other is very useless, because is a catalogue of religions and faction in Christian; Saint Anthony is very marginal and he shows after for much pages but as much he seems disappeared; he reappears alone in few moment and he says anything but prevalence is for heretical faction which explicate their position and their credence, therefore I think that this romance is a very good historical document that explains all position in Christian community during first centuries but other is very difficult find; I think that Flaubert has catalogued every faction of first Christian community and he has wrote this theatrical romance, following example of his Salambò, which is a very archeological document of Carthage, and now he has wrote a Christian document, certainly useful for a historical search but less for literature.

La tentazione di scrivere

Il teatrale Tentazioni di Sant’Antonio di Flaubert è davvero originale per essere una versione teatrale di un romanzo e fornisce informazioni, solo nominale intorno alle diverse sette eretiche del cristianesimo dei primi secoli, questo quindi  è un vero documento educativo; noi siamo, dobbiamo confessarlo davvero abituati  a pensare ai primi cristiani come svolgenti il loro compito spirituale con partecipazione e pazienza di fronte alle avversità; ma storicamente la realtà è differente, e noi dobbiamo considerare che questa comunità cominciò con qualche  membro e dopo compì anche attacchi verso altre religioni, e compì anche qualche omicidio, fra cui Ipazia, filosofa pagana e Plotino altro filosofo pagano; ma nella comunità molte divisioni teologiche sorsero e molte fazioni combattevano fra loro anche con violenza. Questo romanzo resta davvero importante come documento storico mentre per altri usi resta alquanto inutile, Sant’Antonio resta davvero marginale, appare per molte pagine come per altrettante scompare, dice qualcosa ma gli eretici parlano prevalentemente, che esplicano la loro posizione e le loro credenze, quindi io credo che questo romanzo sia ottimo per la conoscenza della prima comunità cristiana. Credo anche che Flaubert abbia seguito l’esempio narrativo e descrittivo del suo Salambò che resta un vero documento archeologico delle rovine di Cartagine, ma ora Flaubert scrive un documento cristiano, certamente utile per una ricerca storica ma meno per la letteratura.
