Il giorno dopo

Diana si alzò e guardò Grace che ancora dormiva, e con molta delicatezza la baciò, era nuda, andò al bagno e poi in cucina, prese un caffè e sedette su di una sedia, un pensiero sorse nella sua mente, cioè se fosse vero quello che Grace avesse raccontato intorno all’inferno e dell’uomo che si chiamava Dante, intorno ai condannati e altro, Diana pensò che fosse solo la creatività di Grace e l’eccitazione per la sua visita; da una settimana si sentivano solo per telefono, sebbene il girono prima erano state tutto il giorno insieme, ma la distanza fra loro diveniva sempre abissale quando non erano insieme, Diana era sempre impegnata  fra i diversi stati e, sebbene il loro amore fosse davvero presente e sentito, gli affari erano davvero importanti per ambedue; Diana era una persona molto pratica, un’imprenditrice ed un genio nel suo lavoro, anche lei amava la lettura e quando poteva leggeva ogni libro; ma ciò che amava era soprattutto gratificare Grace, e sollecitava Grace a scrivere, e sebbene più piccola nutriva un atteggiamento materno verso Grace, che era più grande, la tipica attenzione che una madre che ha perso un figlio rivolge alle persone che ama; comunque Diana era davvero felice che Grace avesse deciso di scrivere un racconto, e continuava a pensare che Grace avesse avuto un’ispirazione al supermercato, comunque bevve il caffè, si affacciò alla stanza da letto e vide Grace che ancora dormiva, la baciò e poi si vestì, era domenica e un bel sole illuminava la città, si affacciò alla finestra e constatò il solito rumore della domenica, decise di uscire, senza trucco, e decise di passeggiare ma senza una destinazione, infatti aprì la porta ed uscì fuori; la strada era piena di gente, e la confusione la consueta né più né meno; ma era una bellissima giornata e Diana era felice perché era con Grace, Diana ascoltò qualche commento di un passante che faceva complimenti per il suo bel corpo: “Buongiorno bellissimo culo, dove vai? Mi piacerebbe conoscerti bene, dopo averlo fatto, e sarò anche molto gentile ti chiederò anche il nome, cosa ne pensi?”, Diana sorrise e fece un gesto di attesa al commentatore, prese il telefono e finse di chiamare, il commentatore chiese: “Chi chiami, bel culo?”, Diana restò calma e rispose: “La polizia, perché mio fratello è un poliziotto e sta arrivando, l’uomo allora si girò e andò via. Diana arrivò in fondo alla strada e per un momento chiuse gli occhi  equando li riaprì era in un sentiero, con qualche ruscello con acqua calda, ed un sole davvero impressionate, Diana era in campagna Diana era in campagna, si voltò ma non capiva dove era, ed udì le voci indietro, si voltò immediatamente e guardò molti soldati che affilavano spade e pulivano le armature, e per l'ordine di un soldato tutti furono preparati con ordine, le lance erano davanti, e lo scudo per la protezione, l’elmetto copriva tutto il viso e gli occhi erano attenti e fissavano in avanti; era un'esercitazione, ma Diana era molto sorpresa e giustamente chiese aiuto ai soldati, che non risposero, anche se era davanti a loro di alcuni metri, continuò a piangere, ma nessuno le rispose, e il soldato che dava gli ordini era indifferente per la presenza di Diana, che sentì una mano sulla spalla, subito si voltò e vide un uomo con una folta barba e capelli raccolti che guardò Diana e i soldati e disse: "Non possono sentirti perché sono morti qui alle Termopili e non sentono la voce di chi vive, potrai parlare solo con me"; Diana pensò per un attimo che fosse solo un incubo, era davvero impaurita perché lei non aveva l’animo della ricercatrice come Grace, era abituata a vivere in città e lì neanche il nome, se non quello greco, cioè ρολίς, ma davvero diverso dalle attuali città, Diana quindi spaventata chiese: “Dove è un aeroporto?, perché dovrei tornare a casa…, quindi questo è davvero interessante ma io avrei un appuntamento e…” l’uomo non guardò Diana e ma rispose: “Non devi temere nulla, tornerai a casa ma dopo aver visto questo combattimento”; Diana fu tranquillizzata dalle parole dell’uomo e chiese: “Quando ci sarà il combattimento?”, l’uomo guardò Diana e commentò: “ Diana tu dovresti essere davvero eccitata per la possibilità he hai di vedere la storia  che accade, ma Grace è Grace e tu sei tu”, Diana allora ascoltò il nome di Grace e chiese subito: “Come conosci Grace?”, e l’uomo rispose: “Perché io vengo dal Limbo nell’inferno dove sono coloro che non conobbero Cristo, e io lì vidi Grace con Dante”; quindi Diana capì che Grace non aveva inventato nulla ma era la verità e chiese: “Dove siamo ora?” l’uomo rispose: “Alle Termopilie loro sono Leonida e i suoi trecento soldati”, Diana non capì e chiese: “Chi è Leonida? E perché loro sono qui?”, l’uomo guardò Diana e rispose: “Come avevo pensato tu non sei come Grace, comunque…”, Diana profondamente offesa urlò: “Se tu sei l’amante di Grace, io resto stupita poiché lei mi aveva giurato amore eterno e ora che mi tradiva con un vecchio che potrebbe avere settant’anni, l’uomo allora rispose: “ Io non sono l’amante di Grace, e io ho almeno 1597 anni; io sono Erodoto, che tu non conosci; ma quando tornerai a casa potrai chiederlo a Grace, ma ora fai silenzio comincia la battaglia”; infatti i soldati erano schierati e disposti nell’ordine che loro avevano già sperimentato, e altre truppe erano schierate Erodoto quindi disse: “Sono quattro giorni che gli spartani aspettano questo arrivo, un osservato ha già avvertito Serse re della Persia che i greci usano raccogliersi i capelli prima di morire, dopo cinque giorni  e Serse arrabbiato inviò le truppe di Medi e Cissi con l’ordine di prendere vivi gli spartani, ma quando i Medi si avvicinarono ai greci un gran numero morì, e altri avanzarono, e mostrarono che un gran numero di uomini erano presenti, ma pochi davvero validi, infatti i Medi si ritirarono e i Persiani presero la loro posizione, quei persiani che Serse chiamò immortali, ma gli spartani combatterono con valore davvero degno di memoria, i persiani quindi non avanzarono neache di un metro e anzi indietreggiarono. Il giorno dopo i persino tentarono ancora ma senza successo, i greci lottarono con ordine sebben coperti di ferite, Serse allora non capì cosa poteva fare e un traditore andò da Serse e indicò un sentiero per aggirare il monte e colpire gli spartani da dietro, il suo nome era Efialte. Per questo sentiero molti persiani passarono durante la notte ed un indovino Megistia previde che al sorgere del sole sarebbe anche arrivata la morte. Le sentinelle informarono Leonida che i persiani aggiravano il monte e Leonida ordinò che gli alleati tornassero indietro, e sarebbe stata un gran gloria anche per Sparta. I soldati persiani caddero, e i greci avevano oramai le lance spezzate e avevano solo le spade, e in questo combattimento cadde anche Leonida, e il suo corpo fu sottratto ai persiani per quattro volte e il combattimento terminò con  trecento spartani a fronte del triplo dei persiani, e questa epigrafe ne ricorda il sacrificio: “Straniero che passi corri a Sparta e dì che noi qui siamo morti per obbedire alle sue leggi”; quindi Erodoto terminò il suo racconto e Diana era affascinata, e avrebbe voluto fare molte altre domande, Erodoto aveva previsto questa serie di domande, quindi disse: “Altri episodi li racconterà Grace, lei ha letto le storie, e tu dirai quello che ho hai visto, soprattutto, ricorda Leonida e i suoi eroi. Vai Diana, Grace ti aspetta, e per ritornare chiudi gli occhi”; Diana, contrariamente alle sue abitudini guardò Erodoto e lo baciò sulla bocca, Diana chiuse gli occhi e poi li riaprì, si trovò nella sua stanza  con Grace  che si affacciò dalla cucina e chiamò Diana: “Buongiorno, come stai amore?”, Diana non rispose e si avvicinò a Grace e chiese: “Conosci Erodoto?”, Grace annuì e rispose: “Certamente, io amo Erodoto”, Diana allora cominciò ad urlare: “Cosa? Tu mi hai giurato amore e, ora mi dici che…”, Grace abbracciò Diana e la baciò, e rispose: “Lui stesso ti ha detto che lo amo”; Diana allora guardò Grace e chiese: “Come lo sai?” Grace rispose: “Io ti amo e dove tu sarai io sarò con te, io so che tu hai incontrato Erodoto, cosa tu avresti chiesto e quando saresti tornata, e ora brindiamo a Leonida”, e ambedue bevvero.
