Il museo era davvero affollato e I turisti guardavano i quadri e le sculture che erano esposte, chi parlava e spiegava lo stilema degli autori, chi guardava e fingeva di capire, ed era la maggior parte, e talvolta si sentiva qualche riso, ma nessuno dei turisti rideva, ed infatti i turisti si guardavano intorno per capire chi ridesse, ma non capivano quale fosse la fonte di tali risa; un gruppo di turisti raccoltosi intorno ad un dipinto, altri turisti fecero lo stesso; un uomo con un vestito, con largo cappello e con larga visiera, una larga camicia, barba e baffi ben curati, stivali neri e una cintura di cuoio, era uscito da un dipinto e cominciò a spiegare un quadro; quindi lui disse: “Io sono Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, e ho dipinto quest’opera fra il 1600 ed il 1601, in Roma, nella cappella Contarelli, questo è uno dei tre con la Vocazione di San Matteo e con San Matteo e l’angelo”, e per quest’ultimo dipinto una turista disse: “La prima versione è perduta”, e Caravaggio: “No assolutamente , è ancora presente nel museo dell’Hermitage di Mosca, e fu rubato durante la seconda guerra mondiale, era a Berlino e fu rubato dall’armata rossa”, quindi la turista con gli occhi sgranati chiese: “Sei sicuro?”, e Caravaggio: “Si sono sicuro perché l’ho rivisto qualche giorno addietro, e aspetto ora le vostre domande, o meglio, cominciamo con te che hai un vero interesse per queste opere”, e la turista chiese: “Perché il dipinto fu rifiutato? E ora la pongo io una domanda: sei laureata in storia dell’arte?”, e la turista: “Si sulla tua pittura e ho preso la laurea in Italia, in Roma”, e Caravaggio: “Da dove vieni?”, e la turista: “Dagli USA e mi chiamo Valeria Meyer, e tu non hai risposto; allora ho ragione?”, Caravaggio rispose: “Si la prima versione era davvero manierista e confesso che io fui influenzato dai pittori attivi in Roma, ma dopo ho ricordato la mia origine lombarda , lo stile naturale e lombardo, che dai fratelli Campi, e anche prima, era naturale”, e la pittura: “Tanto naturale che tu hai voluto ritrarti  sullo sfondo, e poi perché hai ambientato la Vocazione di San Matteo in una taverna?” e Caravaggio: “Perché no? La vocazione è sempre presente per chiunque e San Matteo era un esattore, quindi un peccatore e fu toccato dalla grazia di Dio, come anche noi lo possiamo in qualsiasi luogo, Dio non fa queste differenze, quindi anche in una taverna è possibile la grazia e la vocazione, e siccome già prevedo la domanda rispondo: si la mano destra di Cristo deriva dalla Creazione di Adamo della Sistina”.
